Friday Sub Work Superheroes

Superheroes saving lives on the silver screen can be traced back over 80 years — and much further than that depending on which cinephile you ask — with the first comic book movie adaptation Adventures of Captain Marvel coming out in 1941. However, it’s only in recent decades that the genre has soared in popularity, tightening its grip on Hollywood thanks to multiverses and movie slates of madness, with almost-monthly releases in some years.

According to box office data tracking site The Numbers, superhero movies became the first category ever to outweigh “contemporary fiction” (a catch-all bucket that picks up movies that don’t fit into other genres). Contemporary fiction accounted for 62% of US ticket sales at its 1997peak, but it lost the top spot for the first time in 2021 after superheroes took a whopping 31%share of the moviegoer market, thanks in part to smash hits like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Black Widow.

To put that into perspective, the genre barely registered 20 years earlier, when it captured just 0.1% market share in 2001. Indeed, superhero movies didn't make up more than 10% of American box office receipts until 2008 — a year often pointed to as the start of the modern era of super movies.

The Futures Channel

Futures Channel

I used to use this channel back in the late '90s and early 2000s. Jamie Escalante was a Math Teacher at a high school in LA. Prior to teaching, he was an engineer at a local aerospace company. He rose to notoriety because of how well his students were doing the AP Mathematics tests. I had the opportunity to hear him at a CUE conference in the late 90s.

You may recognize many of his guests. Sure the videos are now old, but the content in the videos is timeless. If you have free time check some of them out and comment below. He was a true teacher!

Connor Out through Friday - Will be at School on Saturday

Old man Connor got himself a case of shingles.  Shingles is a virus in the same family as chickenpox. Depending how fast the medication takes effect will determine a return date. At the moment Mr. Connor is planning on taking two days off and hopes to return Friday. The condition is most painful in the evening, right when you want to relax and go to bed. On Tuesday night I was unable to fall asleep until after 2:30 am.

Update: I will not be at school on Friday. Still experiencing pain in m shoulders and the back of my neck. I have some blisters and do not want to put anyone at risk of chickenpox or shingles virus.

Please do the work assigned by the sub on each day of my absence. At the end of the week only 14 days of school left.

I will for sure be at school on Saturday at 9:00 am for those that need to complete their government hours

Day in Campo, CA

On Thursday morning one of my sons sets off on a life journey. The journey takes him along the 2650-mile PCT,  the Pacific Crest Trail. The trail travels along mountain tops throughout the states of California, Oregon, and Washington. With a terminus point at the Canadian border, and the other near Campos in CA

We drove him to a campground called Camp Liggett (sp)where we spent the night Wednesday after a drive from the Inland Valley to the San Diego area in rush hour traffic.  Liggett is an old army camp.

In the morning my son was joined by another 18 people that were planning on leaving on the PCT that day most of the people that were leaving had flown into San Diego from other states and countries, caught a bus and or a shuttle service that provided transportation to the trailhead. At the terminus were two young ladies that are employed by a PCT organization to record people leaving during the months of Feb - May. These are the most ideal and popular times to begin the PCT hike.

My son presented the paperwork he received online and received a placard that is to be attached to his backpack. The placard allows for all permitting along the 2650-mile trip to be taken care of by the PCT organization on your behalf.

And he's off!
