Midyear Update HHS Through December

We also started the year out with two new teachers. A new math teacher Mr. Lopez, and a new English teacher Mr. Piscioneri.  This year we started the year out with one position unfilled. The unfilled position was flown for a Technology teacher which was not filled due to a lack of qualified teachers in the subject of technology 😞😞. We had a long-term sub in the classroom for the entire semester, Mr. Kirkpatrick. Mr. Kirkpatric filled in admirably and will be replaced in the new year by an English teacher. The district flew an English position instead of technology to get a full-time teacher. In October our principal Mr. Adams was involved in an accident on his motorcycle. Without getting too much into the incident Mr. Adams ended up with a broken leg and broken arm, and a concussion. He has been out for 10 weeks. We are planning that he will be back for the 4th quarter of the year. In Mr. Adams's absence, Mr. D Connor and Ms. Barragan have been guiding the school. In early December we picked up a new teacher for a newly created position on our campus. The new person is in charge of the Wellness Center. The Wellness Center is located in the Hawk center room 12. In October we applied for Model  Continuation High School. On December 1 we had a visit by a two-member party.  We are waiting for the results.  In November we had a Report Card night and in December we had a Winter Movie Night.

Holiday Activity

The students created 3-D shapes out of card stock. The shapes were then made into packages and ornament to be placed on or below a Christmas tree that was made out of wood by a student. The Christmas tree was placed in the office the week before the break.

Approx. 200 cookies were made. Mr. Smiths' class the following day decorated the cookies. The cookies were then delivered to the Foothill family shelter.

Electrical Work Cont. on Tiny Home

Students continue to reinstall the electrical in the tiny home.  As previously mentioned the tiny home was broken into and the electrical wires were torn out. For the last two weeks, students have been reinstalling the damaged work.  I am having the students go one step further this time around and install the outlets and switches. This will make the installation of the wallboard a little tricky but it can be done. Once the lights, outlets, and switch wires are installed we will then reinstall the insulation.

Students also installed a new calendar board in the HHS staff lounge.

Students also began building a construction cart.

Students placed fencing along the garden north perimeter anext to the citrus trees

Students begin running electrical wires in Tiny Home

Students begin running electrical wires in the Tiny Home. Over the summer someone broke into the Tiny Home and caused damage by removing much of the installed electrical. It was a huge setback to the project. But today we began reinstalling the electrical wires.

Q2W5 Is a Wrap!

The first week back from Thanksgiving break was a little busy. On Wednesday of the week, we had our Model Continuation review. I picked up a couple more new students, and our principal Jerry Adams is still out due to a motorcycle accident he was involved in.

Students build First Electrical Modular Station

Students today from various classes contributed in the construction of the first electrical modular station. The station they built offers the student two locations to perform various electrical conections.

Wednesday Model Continuation HS Observation

On Wednesday, November 30th we had a Model Continuation School Review/Observation. Many of the UUSD Administration officials and board members were in attendance for the opening. Both the Tiny Home and the HHS Family Farm were visited.

This year MCSR was led by Megan Cazaras, Dean Connor, and Angie Barrigan. Lunch for the event was provided by the Olive Garden. All of the HHS staff were in attendance. Cory Kirkpatrick our long-term sub was in attendance.  Mr. Waldowski was onsight today providing individual tutoring sessions.

A fun but somewhat stressful day. I believe we have received the award.
