Week 6 Update Sept 26 - 30
This week was spent getting room #14 into working order. My classes cleaned the room, removing scaffolding and some equipment. We relocated the scrap wood pile to a new location, currently in front of room 14 covered by the roof eve of the building.
The students also brought up four of the picnic tables that had been down in the garden. They reconditioned the tables by sanding and repainting them. At the time of this post,- we had two complete.
The students also repaired the chick cage and placed it inside the coop. We moved the chicks into the cage today, Thursday, Sept 29.
Over the weekend while I was gone a lot of action took place. First off, two hoses were left on by an intruder. Second, all of the eggs in the coop were broken. And to top it off someone cut and removed the electrical wiring in the tiny home. Here are pictures of two to of the people caught on the school camera.

Chicks moved from metal open top cage in classroom to wire covered cage
This week the students moved the 10 chicks that hatched in late August to the enclosed cage on rollers. Over the weekend Mr. Connor came in to feed the chicks and found one chick had flown the coop. Realizing the chick had somehow gotten between Mr. Connor's desk and a wall unit. Mr. Connor spent approx. 20 minutes removing items from within the cabinet in hopes of moving the cabinet to move it to retrieve the chick. About 20 minutes into the process the chick wandered out from behind the cabinet. Happy to report all 10 chicks are OK. The next stop for the chicks is the big chicken coop out back.
Fun Friday
Today we took some time to reflect on and celebrate the work we got done this week. The students came together on an emergency project to literally raise the roof on the back coop area. The raising of the roof makes it much easier to access the two back cages.
A little fun during lunch on Friday. Mr. Adams and Mr. Connor participate in musical chairs with the students.

Tuesday - All Classes to the Farm
It's all hands on deck out on the farm. We are building a bachelor pad for the excess of Roos we had hatched and now grown back in March-May. We collected 11 roos into the enclosure. There are a total of 14 Roos on the farm at the moment.
Today the students were using their newfound skills by making repairs to the existing chicken coop.
The photo is of one of our older roos who was hatched on the farm in November 2020. He was one of the 20 chicks hatched on that hatching. The rooster is a Blue Marans.
On Monday the construction classes were introduced to the hammer and the drill!

RAIN!
.We have had an unprecedented heatwave for the past three weeks. Today Tropical Storm Kay began dropping rain just after 2 pm. Last night at 11pm it was 89 degrees, the rain dropped the temperature to 70 degrees! A much-needed relief from the heat.
The Wind generated in the storm took a canopy I had up near the farm and delivered it into the garden, over a six-foot high fence.
Chicken Update W4 of Q1 of the 2022-2023 School year!
This week the Farm classes were working on the chicken coop. The main project was to raise the old coop roof to allow me to get into the cages easier. For the past 5 years, I have been bumping my head on the door jamb.
Mrs. Boswell took one hen home.
We had a family purchase 14 hens today. The purchase started as the result of four hens that kept making their way to the front of the school. To eliminate the bad behavior we needed to move the hens. As a result, we had a family that took some of them and other hens.
We beat the rain during the exchange. We have an unprecedented heatwave that has been going on for the past three weeks. Today Tropical Storm Kay began dropping rain just after 2 pm. Last night at 11pm it was 89 degrees, the rain dropped the temperature to 70 degrees! A much-needed relief from the heat.
The chicken exchange was a result of these four girls heading out in front of the school each day. We had many concerned citizens calling the school letting us know they were out front. To the age-old riddle...Why did the chicken cross the road? Answer... to have concerned citizens calling the school!
In case you have never met Mrs. Boswell. Here is a photo of her. She is on campus Wednesdays and Thursdays helping out.
Q1 Week 3 Sept 5-9 Journal
The week in review.
On Monday we observed Labor day.
Tuesday through Friday the classes experimented with downloading and manipulating MP3 and MP4.
Projects that were due this week were entitled MP4, Heatwave, and MP4 Cut.
MP4 is where the student downloaded MP3 and MP4's from Youtube and then converted them to Audio and Video files. The student was to post a downloaded video from Youtube to a blogger post.
The heatwave was an introduction project using iMovie. The student was to download 10 images from Google images and place them on iMovie. When in iMovie the student was to add beginning/ending titles, add transitions between each photo clip, and lay down a track of music. When completed the student rendered the video and placed it on a blogger post.
MP4cut. The student was to place an MP4 video clip on iMovie. The student cut the video down to a 10-30 second video with a beginning title and at least one cut/transition. Then post to blogger.

Mr. Connor Failed Bee Suit
Over the weekend Mr. Connor moved a bee hive from the front tree of a family in West Covina. The hive was about 12 feet up in the tree. While Mr. Connor was trimming branches around the hive, some bees entered Mr. Connors's bee hive suite through a bad elastic strap on the wrist.
OUCH.
Classwork this week.
In class today the students will be introduced to iMovie. The students will collect 10 images from Google and place them on iMovie, adding beginning/ending text, transitions, background sound/music and rendering video. The video will then be placed on their blog page.

MP4
In class today we will discuss four different ways to place a MP4 (video) on to your blog page.
1. As shown last week - Copy the URL of the YOUTUBE video and select Insert video/Youtube/search/ past the video URL and select.
2 The second way is to copy the URL of the Youtube video and go to a
youtube to MP3/Mp4 converter software available on the web. When you
copy a video this way you physically have a hard copy of the video on
your device/ computer. I recommend saving video this way for the
following reason. This webpage series has been ongoing since 2011. When
you browse back you will find some videos that no longer work, the
connection has been broken. The appearance of the video will be simiar
to #1 above but sometimes the image of the video will not show on your page.
3 .From the Youtube video select SHARE/Embed/Copy Code/Select HTML view on blogger post and paste the code. This will provide you with a HD video.
100 Degree Days - MON-Tues-Wed-Thurs-Fri-Sat-SunDAY
